I’m certainly no Van Gogh

This week I got back into doing art more consistently. Over the past year creating art had be a bit of a struggle. Lately I have found inspiration to create again. A few weeks back in February , I had the had the opportunity to watch the film ” Loving Vincent “. It was a film hand painted in the style of Van Gogh. The film was bright and visual. Inspiring and caused one to feel many emotions. Aside from the fact that I have always been quite the fan of the works of Van Gogh, this movie has easily become one of my new favorites. If you are looking for a good movie or simply enjoy Van Gogh it is highly recommended.

After that I got to thinking that what it would be like to see the world as an entire Van Gogh painting. How bright and vivid the colors around us would be. Van Gogh saw the world in a way that many people didn’t. He had an eye for color and visuals. His work has always been a source of inspiration to me.

Now Im certainly no painter. That is a skill as an artist that I haven’t quite picked up. Digital Manipulation however has always been a form of digital art that I have enjoyed. One that I haven’t done in a while. So this week I took the opportunity to do just that .

The piece that I created was a self portrait in a style similar to Van Gogh’s. I used the background from one of Van Gogh’s self portraits. However I desaturated the color and added a different color hue over it to match the theme. I took a simple selfie of myself and manipulated it to match that of Van Gogh’s style to the best of my ability. In the hair the texture from ” The Starry Night” is featured in the hair. The stars in the eyes are from “Starry Night Over The Rhone”. The above is ” The Starry Night” featured again. The Colors from the starry night series is what I based the theme for this self portrait off of. I’m certainly no Van Gogh but I was pleased with the outcome for this piece.
